CLOSING SHOP
One of my favorite stores in NYC is shutting it’s doors and it’s happening sooner then expected they will be missed.
While it has been known for sometime that the retail institution known as UNION NYC was shutting down shop to be replaced by a new Stussy New York Chapter, a timeline has been set forth with the recent official closing. Blazing a trail for many great brands and becoming an exclusive purveyor of select Japanese brands, UNION NYC will be sorely missed. The new Stussy New York Chapter should see an anticipated opening on August 24th, 2009.

SBTG x Nike Dunk High “Varsity Bones” Custom for Kobe Bryant

During the recent Asia tour by Nike-sponsored basketball superstar Kobe Bryant, a familiar Nike associated artist and customizer in SBTG presented Kobe Bryant with an exclusive pair of “Varsity Bones” Dunk Highs inspired by the theme of “What If”. The shoes were modeled after Bryant’s potential attendance at NCAA Division 1 school Duke with the relevant colorways seen alongside a special lasered wooden box with the Kobe Bryant logo. While much of SBTG’s work pertains to custom shoes, the man himself has seen himself at the center of his very own Nike SB collaboration a few years back.
WE NEED A TOY !
So after seen this awesome toy I want to raise the question and ask that you share your ideas on what a good toy for the DADE FAM would be just post you thoughts on the comments.
In a new Secret Base collaboration version of Ron English’s now iconic character, the McSupersized gets an x-ray treatment. The bulbous figure inspired by Ronald McDonald comes in a translucent reddish-orange hue and packaging made to look like a serving of french fries.
I am thinking that a real dope manatee would rep DADE correctly.

Shawn Stussy
here are some pics of the living legend Shawn Stussy from his studio workspace. As one of the pioneers in the landscape before us and from a time before the labeling of so-called “streetwear”, the studio overview features heaps of archival Stussy products and just general collection items including clothing, surfboards and art. The now iconic Stussy font is seen in copious amounts which has become one of the defining points of the Stussy brand. This guy is some one I would like to learn from.

Gatorade Limited Edition Jordan Series Commercial
Not that long ago, Gatorade embarked on the creation of a commermetiave commercial marking Michael Jordan’s induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame. Taking place at a secret location, the culmination of 14,641 Gatorade bottles and the Gatorade Limited Edition Jordan Series Commercial are seen here. A behind the scenes of the engineering and logistics of the project can also be seen below which details the whole process.

SHOULD THEY BRING IT BACK?
So last night I went to meet my girl at her good friend and partner (I’ll get back into that later) Alexandra’s for a BBQ. Alexandra and her husband Antonin live in Clinton Hill, BK and let me just start by saying that this couple is amazing people. Antonin is a French financier who knows everything you need to know about hip-hop, and I mean everything. This guy speaks with such passion and joy every time the subject is brought up, he definitely took me by surprise. When you first get a glance of him you’re not expecting this banker type guy to know his shit but it goes to show you that you should never judge a book by its cover. Alexandra is an NYC raised Haitian-American journalist, just a beautiful intelligent girl who has never stopped loving and keeping up with the underground world of hip-hop here in the Big Apple (and she also shares the same passion for trees that I do).
I was inspired to post this because years ago Alexandra and my girl Thea started and published a NY hip-hop based magazine called ONE LOVE. They wrote about everything hip-hop at the moment under the tagline “music, life, spirituality.” They put out four dope issues, which included interviews with artists like Mos Def, who at the time was not mainstream star he is today, the Black Eyed Peas pre-Fergie, the Cocoa Brovas, Brand Nubian, etc.
After about a year of me and T living together in Miami I found old issues of the mag and ask why they stopped publishing. I found out it was hard to financially keep the mag afloat, especially since both girls were still in school. And of course, life takes you on different paths. Years passed and both girls started their careers, putting One Love on the back burner.
Yesterday at the BBQ someone mentioned that they had seen One Love on Complex Magazine’s website in an article called “The Complete History of Dead Rap Magazines.” We brought up the site and this sparked much nostalgia and conversation about bringing the mag back in some form, perhaps in an online version. Alexandra is already working on a project called CLASSIC RYHMES where she interviews artists who have created history-making albums. Check it out at http://www.classicrhymes.com.
So DADE FAM, check out One Love on http://www.complex.com/ENTERTAINMENT/FEATURES/Dead-Rap-Magazines/one-love and let me know if you think they should bring it back!

On the weekly drop they have this crazy nixon ceramic player watch that I must have it’s not a ROLEX or anything like that but it’s fiya check it.
The Ceramic Player is Nixon’s first Swiss-made ceramic watch. It features a very minimalistic design, made with 100 meter solid ceramic body and a clean face that’s absent of numbers. It has silver hands and a nice red sapphire crystal at 6 o’clock. The Nixon Ceramic Player watch is available at Nixon now for $1,400.

Dash Snow: A Community Memorial @ Deitch Projects
This is something i thought everyone will appreciate and also let you pay respect to a great artist.
Deitch Projects opened a memorial to Dash Snow over the weekend, converting their space on Grand St. into a veritable shrine to the late artist. Just as Snow’s work celebrates youth and downtown decadence, the memorial reflects the very same through hundreds of photos arrayed in memory of his life and times, as well as a wall open to contributions from the public. Whether or not you are familiar with his oeuvre, one would do well to pay respect at Deitch Projects.
