HUUMMMBBYYY!!!
What’s up readers! Let me start by apologizing for my absence from the blog world – not that I’ve been missed, especially with Rawbert and Basho holding it down. It’s no excuse but it’s the only one I’ve got: I’ve been working like crazy for the past couple of months and just haven’t been able to get to my computer and frankly have not done anything worth blogging about anyway. So enough of me apologizing, I’m back and that’s what matters! I don’t have any pics with famous graffiti writers or rappers or dope cars, but I will bring to the table today some good cultural stuff. Yesterday was the Bicentenary of the Independence of Latin America and anniversary of the birth of The Liberator Simon Bolivar. To celebrate, the Venezuelan consulate in New York Now curated an art show featuring South American artists. I’m proud of this for two reasons: One being that I am from a country in Latin America (Ecuador), the other because my brother-in-law was showcasing his art for the first time in New York City at this event. The ambassadors of Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador were in the house, making for a pretty highbrow affair. My little sister is the one who put the event together, good job sis! I think there were even some potential buyers for her husband’s art. Wishing them mad love from the DADE fam.
Check out the painting of Prez Obama and the first family.
About the artist, Patricio Jijon:
“Influenced within an Andean volcanic city, the painter was born in Quito, Ecuador in 1976. In the 90’s he developed as a musician and audiovisual artist and in 2000, through different experimental audiovisual projects, he starts poetic drawing; mixed technique of poetic text and pictorial music. Specially designed compositions intended to create time intervals applicable to dance, paint, cinema, poetry, etc.
As a result of his migration to the States, he creates a new series combining airbrush, oil, acrylics, pencil and crayons. The meaning of this new work can be defined as the voyage of an immigrant in a cosmopolitan atmosphere filled with cultures, flavors, textures and colors. Filled with textual poetry, in each part a story free of commitment with styles, unfolds.”
So with this I open the gates to the blog world again. Get ready I’m bringing you guys all the new ish I can get my hands on!
